Mohammed Dib MohammedDib (July 21, 1920 - May 2, 2003) is an Algerian writer of French language, author of novels, news, plays, tales for children, and of poetry. Biography Orphan of father at 11 years, it starts to write as of the 15 years age. Later, its meeting with a French teacher, Roger Bellissant (which will become his father-in-law) consolidates it in this way. It works itself as teacher of village (1938-1940). He will be also an accountant, translator and republican journalist in Algiers and Liberté, newspaper of the Algerian Communist Party. In 1948, it takes part in the Meetings of Sidi Madani meadows of Blida and makes the knowledge of Jean Cayrol, Louis Guilloux and Albert Camus. Its first novel, "the Large house", published in 1952, obtains the Fénéon price. First shutter of a trilogy inspired by its birthplace, Tlemcen, this novel describes the atmosphere of rural Algeria of the end of 1930. "the Fire" (1954) and "the Weaving loom" (1957) supplement the trilogy. In 1959, it is expelled of Algeria by the colonial police force because of its militant activities. Andre Malraux, Albert Camus, Jean Cayrol intervene so that it can settle in France. After a few years spent in the south of France, in Mougins, it is established definitively, in 1967, with the That-Saint-Cloud in the Paris area. In 1976-1977, Mohammed Dib teaches at the University of California (UCLA) in Los Angeles, experiment which will inspire to him its novel in worms "L.A. Trip" (2003). Between 1983 and 1986, it teaches in the Sorbonne. It goes several times to Finland where it collaborates, with Guillevic, with translations of Finnish writers. These stays inspire to him its "Scandinavian trilogy", published since 1989: "marble Snows", "the Sleep of Eve" and "Infante Moor". In its last books, "Simorgh", then "Laëzza", finished a few days before its death, it returns, in the shape of a literary puzzle, on its memories of youth. Mohamed Dib received in 1994 the Great Prize of the Francophonie of the French Academy, awarded for the first time to a Maghrebian writer. It obtained in 1998 the Mallarmé Price for its collection of poems "the child-jazz".
